Subject: Strangely sinister
Gameplay-wise there's not a lot to write home about -- make your way around the maze in your helicopter, shoot or avoid the enemies (which, in true 80s style, are random household objects), collect keys, and head for the exit -- but it exudes menace as you play, mostly thanks to the soundtrack.
The title screen has a fairly jolly ragtime tune, but the jolliness is fleeting: during gameplay your progress through the maze is underscored by what can only be described as a robotic heartbeat, and as your energy depletes the beats come faster lending an almost palpable sense of dread and urgency, and proceedings are also punctuated by a synthesised German voice shouting at you every time you die,The aural assault combines with the creepy assortment of toilets, telephones, showers, and whatnot that are out to kill you, and the end result is unsettling, turning a fairly unremarkable game into one of the more unsettling games I've ever played.
